Matt's Birthday
We celebrated Matt's birthday today. Food was great and good to be with everybody! We played games like we would play at a kid's party. Everyone made a paper airplane and flew it down the hall, dropping clothespins in bottles (or vases), putting a small puzzle together trying to be first done, bingo, and the most entertaining....tied a balloon to left leg and then the battle to pop the other balloons while protecting your own---all the long legs highstepping around the room were hilarious! Matt got a start on his motorcycle fund. He wants to get one next spring so he has cheaper transportation. Gram said she wasn't going to give him any money cuz she doesn't want him to have a cycle. She remembers the days when John had one and she'd lay awake at night waiting to hear him come home and she said sometimes he didn't come home (as she glared at me) ;)
Engaged!
Tyler and Jami are engaged! Here's the story: Tyler enlisted the help of Tessa and Matt. He told Jami to get in the vehicle and then blindfolded her and drove her up to Garvin Heights lookout. He had the pathway lit with candles and guided her to the point. The blindfold came off and as she's looking out over the lakes, he asks her where she would go to fish. She looks to KMart ;) and he says to look the other direction. There on the lake he has laid out lights to spell "Marry Me". He got down on his knee and proposed and Jami cried a lot! The ring he had made special for her and it's lovely. They are a good couple and complement each other well and we are happy to have Jami in the family! My kids are growing up!

Party
Last night we had a party with our old Life Group. We usually get together for Christmas and the highlight is exchanging white elephant gifts. This group of people has been so much fun over the years and when we're together, you're guaranteed a sore stomach and face from laughing. I actually woke up this morning feeling like I had a hangover from all the food and fun!

Circle quilt
There's no one home to hold up my new quilt for a picture so the clothes line held it. The windmill shadows are not part of the quilt. The boys thot it was stunning when I turned it so they could see the front! This is my second attempt at machine quilting--I'm getting better, but my machine likes to act up and the tension gets messed up and there is a lot of ripping out and re-sewing. I really like this quilt and don't know if I'll be able to part with it.

God's Provision
Yesterday after the church service we all walked across the road to see what will be our new church building. It was a fitness center and after going out of business, it was offered to us at a Big price, but it was decided that we would build on to our exsisting building instead. I think it was offered to us 3 separate times--each time the price dropped. Someone said to come back when it was free. God had a plan and as so often happens, it wasn't what we expected. When the plans were all drawn up for the new addition, the man who bought the fitness center in a pkg. deal with other properties, asked if we'd like to have the property for free! So it was a clear leading from God. The place is HUGE so we will have a much bigger space for maybe less money than the original plan. We got to write on the walls afterwards. Remodeling starts soon. It's an exciting God adventure!

Jane's 90th
John's mom turned 90 on the 14th and we had a party for her on Saturday. She came out wearing a blouse that matched her cake--she has always been fashionable! I think she enjoyed the social event.
This is John's sister, Audrey, who is avoiding the camera at all times--got her. She lives in Ohio and comes to visit twice a year.

Thanksgiving
John called me out to see what he uncovered on a piece of wood he was going to split.
Thanksgiving dinner was held at Grandma's. Everyone had assigned food to bring and did we have FOOD! Tessa and Jami planned it and did a great job. It was nice not to be in charge and just show up with what I was told. John's sister and her husband are here too so it was a good family time.
And Pucca was all spiffed up and wearing fashionable fall colors. She wouldn't hold still for a proper photo and this was the end of the day when her up-do was starting to fall.

I've known him how long???
My sweet John turned 61 yesterday. It sounds so strange to say a number that big cuz we don't feel that old. John was 21 when I met him so we have known each other 40 years. OH MY!! In September we were married for 30 years. God blessed me with a wonderful man who has been a great husband and father!

Mammy Quilt
Two years ago I saw a picture of an old quilt like this on Ebay or somewhere and loved it so I started scouring the internet for mammy quilts. I found one picture and the woman who posted it apologized over and over and made reasons why she posted the picture. So, I guess it is very politically incorrect! I didn't care cuz I loved it and wanted to make one. I made this for my sister's birthday. It's a good nap size. Sophie the weiner liked it too!

Content
Jami made a Halloween treat for us. It was a good spice cake.
John even ate the cone in the middle.
Our new herd consists of 7 calves. After so many days of rain and
cold, They got to leave the shed for some sunshine. They looked
so happy! And don't we all feel that way when the sun returns?
A beautiful sunset. "Red sky at night: sailors delight"
And the next day the sun was back.

Jami
Oh yes....it's another apron...and I'm not done yet. Isn't she cute? She's Tyler's girlfriend for those who don't know.
Rae Jean
My friend Rae moved to Madison last year so I got to see their new condo when there. It's a very "Rae" house. It's right on the lake so every day she gets to work at her desk over-looking the lake. I've known Rae for about 38 years. There is nothing finer than a girlfriend of many years!!!!
Relaxing in Madison
My sister, Becky, and I took a trip to Madison just cuz. She got us a great deal on Priceline for the Best Western...$35 a night. It was nice and a sweet Hispanic guy made a full cooked breakfast every morning. I lost some of my pictures but we had a good time even tho I don't have photographic proof. Lots of little shops and antique stores and, of course, eating, knitting, and playing Upwords.
Pumpkin Man
Ya know the song.....Do you know the pumpkin man, the pumpkin man, the pumpkin man. I know it's muffin but I sang my version when I saw him coming. While the kids were growing up, John enjoyed growing a lot of pumpkins. The kids got their share of pumpkin labor too and then the harvested crop would be sold to grocery stores sometimes and other times they'd sell them along the street in towns that had something going on. The boys would fill up a hay wagon and park in at the end of the road with a sign for prices and a box for money. Then they would ride their bikes down MANY times a day to check on sales. Now his pumpkin crop is rather small. I have a HUGE one sitting by the fireplace that has real character. Pumpkin memories are all over in my head and I'm smiling!

The Builders
I stopped to see my boys at their current building site. Tyler is on top of the roof and Tanner is on the second floor. It's going to be a house for disabled adults. I think my boys are talented and hard-working! Yes, they are!

Hims and Her
John's mom was kind of down in the dumps when I saw her last Thursday and I saw in the paper that the Winona Hims were doing a concert on Saturday, so I asked if she'd like to go. She was due for an outing adventure. The men's singing group sings hymns and old spirituals and they donate money raised to area organizations that help people. We dined at the Country Kitchen afterwards. Jane is a delightful almost 90 year young woman!

New Herd Begins
Yesterday we got the first calf to start the next herd. He came from the farm where Tessa works and she is probably the one who started him since she breeds the cows. Last year's calves are quite large now and may be sold in January. It's just right to have animals on a farm. Our neighbors who have farmed and milked cows for many years just sold all their cattle and every time I drive by I feel so sad and almost feel like a death has taken place.
I haven't seen a hummingbird in 4 days and only have bees at the feeders, so I think they have flown to warmer lands. I'll miss them.....until May.

Katie's Getting Married
Matt's sister Katie is getting married in December. She had a shower today; complete with nice people and good food! And here's another apron. Also gave her a Paula Deen cookbook. She is marrying an Air Force man who grew up in LaX but now lives in Idaho.
